Lucille: Shaniko Merino Silk Worsted

$32.00

“Strong back. Soft Front. Wild heart.” To me this phrase encompasses this Shaniko yarn beautifully. It’s a solid 3 ply yarn and the silk gives it a lovely drape and luster; and  it’s a wool that is born and raised in the wild American west and milled in North Carolina making it a 100% US Merino.

Shaniko Wool is NATIVA Regen and RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified. This means the welfare of sheep, the land they graze on, and the people who tend to them is monitored for humane practices. The wool is fully traceable and the ranches who contribute to Shaniko Wool have instituted regenerative farming practices to ensure a sustainable wool.

Content: 80% Shaniko Wool 20% Bombyx Silk

Weight: Worsted, 100 g

Length: 220 yards

Source: United States

Care: While all fiber has a final washing and is rinsed until the water is clear, some dye may still exist and you may experience some “crocking” - this is when the dye transfers to your hands while knitting. You may also see some bits of leftover raw dye materials in your yarn; this is especially true for yarns dyed with cochineal, sappanwood sawdust, weld plant, and marigold.

Due to the unscientific nature of how I approach natural dying, you may see some “imperfections” in the yarn.

Embrace them.

To maintain the color of your yarn, keep out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and hand wash with a ph neutral soap in cold water.
